You Checked Mobile. Did You Check Tablet?

Responsive reviews need to cover the spaces between your desktop and phone layouts.

You Checked Mobile. Did You Check Tablet?
From the Select Creatives conversation with Candice of Sculpt 25 Creative.

The middle sizes deserve attention

A page can look convincing on a large monitor and a phone while struggling at the widths between them. During the recorded website review, tablet testing becomes a useful checkpoint. The conversation highlights the need to review several devices rather than treating desktop and mobile as the entire job.

Intermediate widths can expose awkward line breaks, cramped navigation, overlapping content or sections that keep a desktop arrangement without enough room. These are practical layout issues to investigate, rather than reasons to create a separate website for every device.

Test tasks, not just screenshots

Open the menu, follow a project link, complete an enquiry form and use any interactive sections. Rotate the device and check whether the experience still makes sense. A screenshot can show an attractive layout while hiding an unusable interaction.

Resize the browser gradually as well as checking familiar device presets. Look for the point where a composition stops working. That tells you where the design needs a change in spacing, type size or arrangement.

Keep the message intact across sizes

A responsive layout should preserve the relationship between the headline, supporting image and action. If a decorative element pushes important information out of view, reconsider its size or position.

Keep a short release checklist that includes phone, tablet and desktop journeys. Record issues with the viewport size and the task that failed so the team can reproduce them. Finish the review by repeating the actual customer journey on a touch device.

Put the review into practice

Choose one customer journey on your website and review it with these questions in mind. If you need an outside perspective, discuss your website with Select Creatives.
